Listening To Your Inner Voice

Last week, I wrote about finding purpose in every moment of every day. So this week I thought I would share another personal epiphany.

I was listening to Oprah on XM Radio in my car when she welcomed Eckhart Tolle to her show. People were asking questions about Tolle's new book A New Earth. More than 2 million have already bought this book when one comment really struck me.

“Well, how do you know that you are living your purpose or if it’s just your ego wanting something?”

He used an example: “Let's say I want to be a rock star. How do I know that it is just my ego wanting to be a rock star so I’ll be famous or if it is really my life's purpose?”

I know what you might be thinking, but really, it was a great question. I often wonder the same thing. Well, not a rock star, but another version of one. I want to be a famous purse designer. I also want to be a practitioner with my church.

So how do I really know if either of these things are meant to be or if I'm just fantasizing from from my ego? Tolle gave a good answer. He said: “If your achievement doesn’t satisfy you then it was your ego.”

WOW! Hello. That was simple.

That makes sense. If you want to be a rock star, achieve that goal, and then find out it is not that satisfying ... bingo … it's not your purpose. Not only does that make sense, it really helps answer a few questions I've been asking myself lately.

I am so grateful that I took some time last week to listen to my moment. It told me straight away that I really am living my purpose right NOW. You see, I might want to be a famous purse designer, but I also believe that we have many purposes. Right now, for example, my purpose is to be an image consultant who provides workshops that help people. That is very rewarding and very satisfying for me.

There is no doubt about it. I love the way men and women feel about themselves after we have worked together. I also know it's not just pride or ego. In fact, it could even be an important step toward my other desires or some other purpose that will surface in good time.

Knowing all this also helps us ask some pretty important questions in our lives. Here is one you might want to ask right now.

How satisfied are you with your achievements?

Whether you have achieved many successes or just a few doesn't really make much difference. If you are not satisfied with them, then maybe you are not living your purpose. Or, maybe you are but have forgotten to be grateful for it. Either way, it's something to think about. And, hopefully, you might think about some more before attending my next workshop this Saturday, May 3.

If you haven't done so already, register for it as soon as possible. It will be held right here in Las Vegas at a very convenient location. And, if you mention you read this post on my blog, I'll even extend the discounted price, provided you register by Wed. Give it some thought and I'll hope to see you there.

Who knows? If you do attend, I might be able to help you work through questions like the one proposed today. Why not? I can always take a moment in-between helping you dress your best to chat about your inner beauty too. I really mean it! It all starts right with some very positive thoughts — like wishing you peace, love, and joy in your life!

Find Your Purpose In Every Moment

I have so much going on in my life, have been working very hard, and have so much to be grateful for. Yet, I started to feel like something was missing. Have you ever felt like that?

Always make some time not for yourself, but with yourself

I knew April would be busy. I had several expos to attend and a few speaking engagements. I also teach a class for kids, and needed to set time aside to plan for the workshop in May. Naturally, all of this includes managing a growing business and working with dozens of great clients.

Add to all this "stuff" that I do (which I am grateful for), I started to cutting out a few things here and there. The 30-minute workout at the gym, for example, just until things settle down. The journal I keep seemed easy to let slip for a few days. The book I am reading will be there in a few weeks. Even church was something I was considering optional, given I could use the little extra sleep.

When you start feeling sad, it's because you are sacrificing too much of what fills you up.

So I asked myself, "What would Dr. John Demartini do?" I picked up "Count Your Blessings" and took a look inside. The chapter — The clearer your ultimate purpose, the more effectively you'll fulfill it. — quickly inspired me. You see, when I read this chapter again, it reminded me to listen to me inner voice.

We all have it, you know. There is an inner voice that tells us to fulfill our purpose. We when listen, it's much easier to experience a new level of gratitude, unconditional love, and a greater level of health.

Do you know what my inner voice told me? Fulfilling our purpose is done moment by moment. That means: a few minutes ago, a few minute from now, and right now. I know it might sound odd to some people, but it's true. Your inner voice is asking you to fulfill your purpose for that moment, every moment of the day.

Sometimes it may seem difficult to do, especially when life pulls you in different directions. It doesn't matter what they are really: if you have kids, if you a demanding job, or if you any number of other issues that seem to pop up. It all counts.

So, the other day, I woke up a little earlier to start my day with a workout, well before taking my 8-year-old daughter to school. Of course, when my daughter knew I was up early, she wanted some time to talk and hang out before school. This time, I decided to listen to my inner voice. We would still have time to talk on the way to school. I really needed my workout.

My point is that I needed to fulfill my purpose in that moment for me. Good thing too. Instead of thinking about how I was missing my workout, I was more focused after my workout and we had one of the best talks ever. Later that day, she took her teacher up on an opportunity to do her homework in class, giving us additional family time when she got home.

One by one, my passions returned as quickly as they had left. My purpose in morning requires writing in my journal and working out. My purpose requires me to read at night and always get to attend church. It wasn't long after that I began to feel more love, more gratitude, and more healthy despite having just as much to do.

Having those moments also makes me a better person, wife, mother, consultant, and friend because the quality of the time is just as important as the quantity of time. It's a good lesson and I hope it helps you as summer speeds up our schedules. It's not as difficult as you think. Just listen to what the inner voice is telling you.

Mine telling me to wish you peace, love, and joy in your life! What is yours telling you? Right then, go do it!

Green Is In, But Not Just For The Environment

While I was out last week, enjoying the wonderful addition of a gorgeous baby girl (my niece), I was taken by surprise by my team penned a guest post for me. I wasn't surprised because they did (I asked them too), but I was surprised by the topic.

They filled in by writing about making fashion green for the environment, which is very awesome. But what also surprised me is that I was planning to write about green too — the color. They had no idea! Maybe great minds do think alike.

I've been thinking about this year's summer colors for some time and noticed that the color green is in.

Watch for it. Bright greens will be in for everything from dresses to shoes to handbags. I noticed the trend two weeks ago while I was filling in my wardrobe. I picked up some great greens one week and, BAM!, Renee Zellweger appears in InStyle magazine with a bright green dress the next.

I've always loved green and it's long overdo to take its place as a fashion statement for summer. It's bright. it's happy. It's full of life. I always feel happy when I wear it and, for celebrities, it shows up well on any red carpet or runway.

Nicole Miller is seeing more green too. So is Louis Vuitton. Oscar de la Renta has even put green front and center on his Web site.

Trust me on this. if Louis and Oscar are seeing green, everyone else is sure to follow. "But wait," you say. "Louis and Oscar are a bit out my price range." No problem. Target is always there to help. You can find many top designer-inspired fashions at Target.

I paid them a visit the other day and caught some great new handbags in all shapes and shades. While I didn't shop shoes, I'm sure green is filling in the racks there as well. Macy's too. And even Sephora. They all have some great beauty essentials featuring green.

So Happy shopping for the summer. Keep your eyes open for green and a great look will follow! Until next week, here's also wishing you peace, love, and joy in your life!

Green Is For Girls, And Boys Too

Stephanie is out this week for an unexpected celebration! Her sister-in-law had a brand new baby girl, Izzabella.

In lieu of Stephanie's weekly post, we're sharing some fashion news with an environmental twist. As part of the season launch of "The Green" on Sundance Channel, Barneys New York and the eco-chic fashion brand Loomstate is launching a national T-shirt recycling program to help fashion go Green!

Beginning April 13, you can drop off your old T-shirts at all Barneys' at any location nationwide. Loomstate will "re-fashion" the T-shirts (re-style, re-dye, re-print, etc.) to create a new, limited edition T-shirt collection to be sold exclusively at Barneys for Holiday 2008.

Participating consumers will receive a 20 percent discount on women's Loomstate for Barneys Green and men's Loomstate merchandise from April 13-27. Proceeds from the program will benefit One Percent For The Planet.

Participating in the recycle program is also a fun way to share going green with kids. And it's a promising way to wish new arrivals like Izzabella — peace, love, joy, and a greener planet.
