Give Yourself Some Credit

Do you ever have times when things seem great and you attribute them to this or that? I know I do, but it's not true.

I am here to tell you today that it is not about this or that. It is because of you.

Last week, I posted late because I was having a tough time writing about my workshop. I didn't want to write about myself and "toot my own horn." But the truth is: I did create a great workshop and I if don't toot my horn, then who will?

Interestingly enough, I re-learned this lesson shortly after my workshop. I had a very dear friend give me some excellent feedback on the workshop — feedback that I could never thank her enough for. (When she reads this, she will know exactly who I am talking about).

"I strongly encourage you to rethink your introduction. You sold yourself short."

This made me think. How many times in our lives do we sell our self short? Looking back, I know I did at the beginning of the workshop. I said I started my business because I love shoes and shopping. That was it.

While this is true, I also started because I love fashion. I've studied it and invested many years of my time to learn was does and doesn't work. I have enjoyed supporting men and women in feeling better about themselves. I've helped hundreds of people make personal and professional fashion decisions.

I even love watching these people transform. Many of them have no confidence when we first meet, and there is a transformation that happens when they start dressing better and taking time out for themselves. It's virtually the same every time for every person, even though I have helped hundreds.

Many of them call me from time to time just to say "Wow! After I met with you, I got that job I wanted." Or, "I'm in a new relationship." l love that, because I really do what to help people reflect their inner confidence and when they do, great things happen. I've done it hundreds of times, and look forward to doing it hundreds more.

So thank you, my friend. I will be sure that next time, my audience will have no doubt who I am. They will have no doubt that they can place their confidence in me, because I am confident in myself and my experience.

I am also happy to share this advice with everyone else too. If you are good at something, do not be afraid to "toot your own horn." After all, affirmation comes from the inside, and the people who may hire you are looking for you to tell them why you are good. They are not looking to find ways to tell you why you are good! So be good, be great, and share it with the world! :)

Wishing you peace, love, and joy in your life. Always. :)

You're Never Too Young To Look Your Best

I know many people have been wondering how my "New Year - New Image '08" Image Empowering Workshop went. I know because I've been receiving e-mails asking about it.

Well, wait no longer. It was great.

More than 20 women attended the workshop, some of them as young as 15. That might surprise you, but not me. Younger women are very in tune with how image and success are tied together. You know, if they learn how important the bodies God gave them are now, then the more likely they will be to learn positive image habits today as opposed to struggling to unlearn unhealthy habits later on, like so many of us seem to do.

I cannot stress this enough. The early teens are a great age to start learning what to wear and how what we wear might impact our lives. If you ever watched the 1980s movie The Breakfast Club, you know what I mean. Yes, the main characters learned not to judge each other by their looks, but they also learned how they looked on the outside was a reflection of what they felt on the inside.

The same can be said about our workshop. Based on some follow-up comments I received, I am very proud of how it turned out. It was exactly what I hoped it would be, never mind that as my first workshop I knew that some areas might need to be tightened. But this is all part of maintaining success. It might have been my first public workshop (I usually hold private workshops for small groups and offices), but many guests said they would have never guessed it.

Several expressed that they were grateful for the information they received too, including handouts that will help guide them in making future purchasing decisions. Much of it was based upon specific body types, but some it touched on what we want to say about ourselves during different occasions: when to look professional, natural, or glamorous.

I wasn't the only one to provide some tips. We also had a hair specialist, someone who was not afraid to share some honest, constructive suggestions. Since, a few of my guests told me that they have already scheduled appointments with their stylists.

Others asked if I would be hosting another public workshop soon. The answer is absolutely YES!

I am already working on my second public workshop. It will be held in late March, which is a perfect time to introduce some spring-summer fashion tips. I've also lined up a few professional models to help us out.

If you missed the first workshop, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail so I can add you to my early notification list. Once you're added, I'll make sure to send you the details about the second workshop before I post it here.

Last but not least, a special thanks to everyone who attended the first workshop. The success of any workshop is partly dependent on guests. We had a great group and I am very grateful to have met so many wonderful women, including a few who read this blog. I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

So until my post next week, always know that I am thinking of you, wishing you peace, love and joy in your life! :)

The Key To A Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I trust everyone had peaceful and loving holidays. I know I did. I was very happy about saying good by to 2007 and very much looking forward to a great 08! Mostly, because I already know it will be a home run year.

If you're one of the people who struggled in 2007, this a great to start fresh with new, positive and self-fulfilling thoughts.

Keep in mind that our old thoughts brought us to where we are now. So now it's time for new thoughts to propel us into a new year. This doesn't necessarily mean the old thought were "bad." Maybe they just need some fine tuning. And that's what I would like to share today — an exercise to help rid of those out thoughts and bring in some fresh ones. Here we go. Close your eyes for a moment and ask yourself ...

"What has held me back from what I wanted in 2007?"

When you have the answer, come back and finish this post.

Do you have the answer? I hope so because I want you to take out a piece of paper and write on the top:

"IN THE PAST..." (fill in whatever held you back), followed by
"AND NOW I AM ..." (fill in what you want to do)

Here's an example. Last year, I was held back from achieving my goals because I was too attached to money. So I spent several months working for money instead of what mattered to me most. Yet, like most people, I was too scared to just go after what I wanted because I wasn't sure I was worthy of having it.

So my paper read like this:

IN THE PAST, I let money decide what I was worth and I didn't go after what I really wanted because I was scared I wasn't worthy of having it.
AND NOW, I do what I do because I love it and I love helping people. I am worthy of all the success I create.

Have you done this yet? Good, because now I want you to tear the piece of paper in half. And burn the top half! I mean it (just be safe: in a fire place or outside with a glass of water in hand): burn it up. The old thoughts are gone, and deserve no better. Once you burn them, they no longer exist.

So now, you can use those old thoughts that held you back in 2007 as new thoughts to lift yourself forward in 2008.

Keep the top half somewhere you will see it on a daily basis — your wallet, night stand, bathroom mirror, or wherever you are sure to see it everyday. Make sure you look at it everyday, and let it remind you who you are and where you are going.

This is the year to make all your dreams happen. And, I give you my blessing to do it. Go forth be happy, prosperous, and love someone. Wishing you peace, love and joy in your life! :)
